Front and Back Garden - Plymouth

This house is situated in a fairly busy road, but had a huge cedar hedge, over 3m thick, absorbing a large part of the big front garden that the client wanted removed. An existing patio wrapping around the house was open to a drop onto the lawn, with the entire garden visible immediately, with no mature shrubs, trees or planting. The client was keen to make the front garden more useable and friendly.

The design breaks the area up into a number of areas, including a log chopping area, with walls using gabion baskets filled with logs from the Cedar hedge to define the edges, as well as a new wildflower garden walk to the lower corner an new seating area.

New raised beds and borders help hold the existing patio and create a welcoming seating area, using planters to help delineate the space.

The back garden was much smaller and was completed hard landscaped. along with an old rendered wall 1.8m high the garden was a sun trap, overlooked and unusuable for much of the summer. The design introduced of a new pergola, creating an enclosed seating area with new planting borders around the area. Pots were used to help create a sense of movement through the patio. Simple architectural planting gave a modern finish to the borders.

Project is currently being phased to support the budget, with the existing hedge having been removed and pleached trees having been installed.
